A NEW ERA OF INVESTMENT

Advanced Manufacturing Is Accelerating the Region

Central New York's established industrial economy is being strengthened by major new investments in advanced manufacturing and technology.

These investments have the potential to create opportunities well beyond the companies making them. Large manufacturing operations require contractors, equipment providers, logistics companies, manufacturers, technical services, engineering firms and a broad network of supporting businesses.

That expanding ecosystem creates another reason for industrial companies to consider establishing or growing a presence in Central New York.

TRANSFORMATIONAL REGIONAL INVESTMENT

Micron Is Accelerating What's Already Happening

Micron Technology's investment in Clay, New York represents one of the most significant advanced-manufacturing developments in the country and a major new chapter for Central New York's industrial economy.

Micron broke ground on its New York semiconductor manufacturing complex in January 2026 and poured the first concrete for the project in July 2026, marking its transition into vertical construction.

The company's long-term New York plans contemplate up to $100 billion of investment over more than 20 years and as many as four leading-edge semiconductor fabs in Clay. Micron says the development is expected to generate approximately 50,000 New York jobs, including 9,000 direct Micron positions.

OPPORTUNITY BEYOND THE FAB

Major Investment Creates a Larger Ecosystem.

A project of this scale requires far more than semiconductor manufacturing alone.

Micron is actively working to expand its domestic supply-chain ecosystem, creating opportunities for suppliers, contractors and supporting businesses. By July 2026, Micron reported that approximately $675 million had already been directed to New York-based contractors, suppliers and subcontractors during early site work.

For Central New York, that means potential growth across a much broader range of industries and services.

PEOPLE POWER INDUSTRY

A Region Investing in Its Workforce

Industrial growth requires people—and Central New York's continued investment is extending beyond buildings and equipment into education, workforce development and community infrastructure.

Regional colleges, universities, workforce-development organizations and skilled-trades programs contribute to the talent pipeline serving manufacturing, construction, engineering, technology and industrial operations.

Major new investments are further expanding that ecosystem. Micron and New York State established a long-term community investment framework focused on areas including workforce development and education as the region prepares for continued growth.
